Soccer Uniform History
soccer uniformSoccer uniforms have changed greatly in the last 100 years. The types of material used to make the uniforms as well as colors have evolved as newer technologies come into play.
Take, for example, the fact that before color television the two teams generally had significantly different toned uniforms, one paler and one darker, so as to tell them apart. This is no longer necessary due to color TV.
Decades ago, uniforms were also made out of heavier materials that absorbed water more easily. In the rain and mud they would weigh the player down significantly by the end of the game. Today’s uniforms do not hold in water the same way and are lighter to begin with. Nowadays, Gordon Internationalsoccer uniform material is not only lightweight but also wicks sweat away from the player’s body, thus keeping the player cool while running at top speed.
soccer uniform Soccer uniforms also used to be much longer, both in the sleeves and pant legs. Prior to the 20th century, often the shorts reached past the knees and the shirts, with collars, had long sleeves. Now the soccer shorts are much shorter and tops are usually short-sleeve, sometimes almost sleeveless, however the shortest shorts were seen in the 1980’s and since then, they have gotten slightly longer again.
