Playing at the Pub: Poker in the UK
There is nothing better than relaxing with a pint at your local pub. Pubs are instantly relaxing, comfortable, and an excellent escape from the toils of everyday life. For British online poker players, the pub can pose a conundrum. The pub is great, but what do you do if you want to relax with a pint AND an exciting game of poker. Luckily for all you British poker players out there, recent laws have changed the gambling rules in pubs. The sum of all this new legislation is that your local pub is now technically able to host a poker game with money in play. So if you and your mates like to hang out at the pub, you can add a poker game to your normal evening out. The one catch if you want to play poker at the pub is that you have to be the one to initiate the game. You have to ask your local barkeep if they would be willing to host the game, not the other way around. Individual pubs also reserve the right to not allow poker or other forms of gambling in their establishment. This isn’t a big hitch for dedicated poker players, but beginners out there may forget that they can combine a pint and poker.
